We recently interviewed a best Indian Independent Filmmaker Sreedhar Tn, who is also efficient director, creative script writer and dedicated producer.

Tention Free :  Let’s talk a bit about your work, yourself. Your background, education etc. ??

Sreedhar Tn :

I did my masters in Business Administration in 2005 and then got into the call center industry. I was employed as a customer service agent with GE and moved to Amazon. I was with Amazon till I got into the movie business.

Tention Free : Please tell us about your passion with your work ?

Sreedhar Tn :

All I can say is I love movies. You can say I am obsessed with movies in general and anything can spark an inspiration for a movie script in me. An innocent phone conversation, a text message or two strangers talking in a public transport, you can actually say I am more than passionate about my work.

Tention Free : And what you say about your first movie ?

Sreedhar Tn :

My first movie Janaaza just happened over an innocent facebook message. Me and my partner for that movie Nysa talked about doing a horror film based on the Djinns as explained in the koran. We had about 25000 USD between ourselves and after a few hiccups we started the principal photography in a city called Asansol in India. It took us 2 years for us to wrap up the movie since most of the actors were working on their vacations and we were constantly running out of money. But though the movie did not have a wide theater release, we were happy with what it did online and as well as at the festival circuits. We did manage to make a small profit for ourselves.

Tention Free : What motivates you to do your best work as a independent filmmaker ?

Sreedhar Tn :

The best part of Independent films is you do not have to adhere to rules, by rules I mean you can pick up any subject you want and tell it your own way without studio interference or catering to box office demands. The film could be as weird as it can be, but if your target audience loves it, it can actually turn into a cult classic. You also do not require a huge budget to make independent films, that adds to the fun as well. To answer your question, working around the rules motivates me to do my best work.

Tention Free : Can you please tell us about your next movie “tailgater”.?

Sreedhar Tn :

Tailgater is a thriller set in India, with an Indian cast and crew produced for an International audience. The language spoken in the movie would be English. The movie deals with lot of issues which are alien to an international audience….we discuss arranged marriages in India, the relationship between parents and their grown up kids and all the while slowly preparing the audience for a roller coaster ride of murder, Kidnap and gore. I can safely that the audiences all over the world would get to see an India which is quite different from the one they saw in “slum dog millionaire”.

Tention Free : At what point did you decide to become a filmmaker ?

Sreedhar Tn :

My first memory of movies was watching the james bond series which my dad used to take me along to. I was fascinated by movies then and then Quentin Tarantino happened….it was while watching “pulp fiction”, i was around 15 at that time, that’s when i decided i wanted to choose a career as a film maker.

Tention Free : What are you working on now and where do you feel your production is headed?

Sreedhar Tn :

At the present time, I am only working on Tailgater and I can say the production till is now very satisfactory. My Producer Shyam is very co-operative and so are my cast and crew. We have just finished location scouting and would be starting principle photography in Mid October.

Tention Free : What are your future plans for filmmaking ? Your vision for the coming years.

Sreedhar Tn :

After finishing The Tailgater, I intend to make another thriller in English as well as a web series. But then it is too early to talk.

Tention Free : How’s your feelings when you made your first movie ?

Sreedhar Tn  :

It was like a school kid doing his first science project. The feelings were kind of cocktailish, a weird mixture of excitement, nervousness and elation, which most often then not had me working mostly trial & error basis on the sets.

Tention Free : Everybody needs time out. What do you do in your free time?

Sreedhar Tn :

I watch movies and if there is not a good movie around, i pick up a paperback. I am mostly into fiction and not into monks & Ferraris .
