Tention Free: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education, your passion etc. ??
I’m an American rapper by the name of Only1Tipy. I grew up in Stone Mountain, GA. I Went to Stephenson High School. I’ve been writing music since 5th grade. But actually started recording in high school with label owner J-String and a homeboy named Rob.
Tention Free: We been hearing a lot about you, so we notice your starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?
It feels good. Definitely past due. I’ve been working hard over 10 years. So to finally have people taking notice feels good. But believe or not I’m a very reserved person. I don’t go out much unless I have to. I like being alone a lot.
Tention Free: Can you please tell our readers more about your recent released ep “Free Slave”?
Yes “Free Slave” is a newest ep I released on all major streaming platforms. It’s a 5 song ep mixed and mastered at Arkatek studios in Atlanta Ga by the head engineer Corey Ingram. Who also did the Biggie (Notorious BIG) duets album and Jagged Edge Good Luck Charm record and many more.
Tention Free: What’s the reason behind choosing this name “Free Slave”?
All of my albums I title always reflect how I feel and what I’m going through at the time. And I’ve always felt like we are all free slaves. Being the fact yeah we are in America but we are slaves to different things whether it’s materialistic things or your mentality. Even being physically enslaved also. We have to break the barriers of being a slave to different things.
Tention Free: How’s your experience to release this EP?
I’ve been getting great feedback on the release of this hip-hop ep. A lot of people appreciate my honesty and opening up in my music. I’ve for years always told others people’s stories in being afraid of telling people about I’ve been through and what I’m currently going through.
Tention Free: What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far ?
I’ve been blessed to have worked with some of the people I’ve looked up to. From meeting Freeway Rick Ross on tour around 2009 and then signing to his label to produce a project with them. As well as my team member Hollywoo father “Big Walt” guiding through this industry with artist development. As well as working with Freebands, YSL, 89 Til, and All Money In with Dj VIP. Dj VIP and myself did a single called Down and Dirty a couple years ago before the tragic situation with Nipsey Hussle.
Tention Free: What’s your goal in life you want to achieve next?
My next goal in life is to help people accomplish their goals whether it be through arts or business. I also want to help people with everyday needs with homelessness and building my community and other communities like mine.
Tention Free: What motivates you to do your best work?
My motivation honestly come from my daughter (Aaliyah) my family and my team. They keep me going at the times when I find it difficult to continue. Also knowing that God is always with me keeps me sane and motivated as well. Without God I am nothing!!
Tention Free: Did you choose this industry, as a career, or as a hobby?
I’ve always taken my music seriously. From passing them out at random gas stations and giving them out state to state hand to hand. I’ve always looked at this as a career. But my love for the music always made it feel like a hobby.
Tention Free: Everybody needs time out. What do you do in your free time?
I spend a lot of my free time with my daughter. Teaching her to drive. Washing her dog with her and other little things that I know matters and makes a difference with her. I also like go out into nature whether it be a hike through the woods or going to a body of water to clear my mind.
