Tention Free: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education, music passion, etc. ?
I was born in New York City. I’m from a large family, 3 boys, and 3 girls. I was always the loner and thinker type. I also loved being creative. I loved to read, draw, write poetry, short stories and I ran track in high school. I took French classes for 3 years and was in my school’s French Club. I speak conversational French, but I do need to brush up on that language a bit more. I haven’t been using it much. I was in the yearbook club for one year. I stayed busy with activities. When I recorded and pressed my first single, “You’re the One Who Makes Things Right”, I submitted it to Fox TV to get a cameo on one of their top shows, New York Undercover. They contacted me within weeks and told me that they only use artists signed to major labels, but can you come into work on Monday. I ended up with a cameo background role on “New York Undercover”. I went on to many background roles on major TV shows, such as “Law and Order SVU, Mercy. I’ve worked on major movie production sets like “Bourne Ultimatum”, “Hitch” and various indie movies, including “Destination Fame”. I received a cameo part in Naz’s “Be a Nigg* Too” music video that MTV banned. Naz had a controversial message that was all too taboo at the time. I had a supporting role in and industry commercial for Mercedes Benz and some other regional Bank and Cellphone commercials. I was also in a commercial for Sodastream. I love to stay busy. During this whole time I continued writing, performing, and publishing my music. I am truly having so much fun in my music journey. It has opened up many doors. I co-hosted an entertainment TV show in Connecticut. I had my own radio show for a bit. That was fun. But, music is my main focus, so I spend more time developing my craft in this area. But, I do need to give a shout out to Will Smith! Thank you for being down to earth, friendly and a great actor to work with. I would love to work with you again! Will Smith makes a 10 hour, hot, sweaty, outdoor, summer weather, movie work production shift fun! His constant outbursts of belly laughter reallylifted my spirits when I was sweating bullets and thought that I was going to faint in that summer heat! Ha, ha, ha
Tention Free: We been hearing a lot about you, so we notice you’re starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?
I am still me. I try to stay grounded and humble. I am not looking for any glory. I try to stay focused on what originally started me on this journey and that is to share my testimony through music and bring healing and hope in world that needs it.
Tention Free: Can you please tell our readers more about “Alter my Perception”?
“Alter My Perception” is a song that challenges people to look at the reality on a deeper spiritual level. Not just at face value because our eyes can fool us. Not everything is as it appears to be.
Tention Free: What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far?
My most exciting achievement is my faith in God, family and friends. Music comes last.
Tention Free: What’s your goal in life you want to achieve next?
I want to continue to stay faithful to God, family, friends, and my music. I want to only put out a message that heals man’s spirit, mind, and emotions and help lead him back to his creator.
Tention Free: What motivates you to do your best work as a songwriter?
Living life! It’s our life experiences that make us. Our relationships, what we read, what we see, our moral values learned, our dreams, desires, and aspirations. But, I find that my most passionate and moving song lyrics come from heartbreak and trials. Being an overcomer through life’s trials gives me a testimony. I’ve had my share of hardships in life that has birthed many songs out of me. But I don’t sing the woe is me type of songs, I sing motivational lyrics on how I survived and I’ve grown in wisdom and character along the way. I like to encourage and give hope to others through my songwriting.
Tention Free: Did you choose this industry, as a career, or as a hobby?
I chose this industry as a career. This is what has kept me growing as an artist and a businesswoman. I knew what I wanted as soon as I stepped out. But now it didn’t start this way from the jump. I wrote to inspire myself and to lift myself out of grief and depression. This music ministered to me first, then God pressed it on my heart to share my music with others to heal their hearts. Our gifts are meant to bless others. So when I stepped out with my faith and trust in God leading me, he pressed on my heart that this is a business and to learn as much as I can about publishing, copyrights and protecting my catalog. I truly have divine guidance and I thank God for that because the Lord has protected me from many pitfalls in this business. Yes, I’m going to take this to Church, to God be the glory, He has sustained me all along the way.
