Check out the interview :
Tention Free : Let’s talk a bit about your work and what is the secret behind your success?
Allen Clark :
the secret behind my success it believing in myself, having a positive foundation of people around me and having some very special people that truly pushed me to pursue my dream as an artist. Funny thing 4 years ago I thought I would be a social worker or something in healthcare but now all I do is try to perfect each project I’m working on to get closer to my endgame.
Tention Free : What are you working on now?
Allen Clark :
I’ve been busy as of lately to be honest. In the past two weeks we just had our first run of Underground Episodes at the Plays and Player Theater and right behind that I did the production and musical coordination for The Dancer and My Sisters Keeper which featured in the Think | Create | Inspire Festival and we are getting ready to take Underground to the Ithaca Fringe Festival in Ithaca New York next month.
I’m currently working on several projects with individuals “Boomerang” with Henderson Sealy and Desiree Bush, “Mississippi Smile with Kamillah Abdul-Malik,”Xzibit P: Portraits Painting and Performing Art,” and Mental Prison With Antonie Strohaman,Ra Wilson,Henderson Sealy, and Demetrius Ford. I’m happy with all the work and truly looking forward to the end process. As I said before with all this positive energy and people around me can’t help but want to see success for all of us.
Tention Free : What inspires your creativity ?
Allen Clark :
To be honest everyday life inspires me. Watching people on the train, bus or street corner, I always see a story forming right before my eyes and over the next few days begin to write about it. Truth is life is a stage made to entertain us all and if you don’t see the humor, drama, or seriousness in it then your not paying attention.
Tention Free : Who are your inspirations ?
Allen Clark :
I’m honestly inspired by not one person but many. Again it’s everyday life that I see as a story every day news I see as a will to better myself everyday artist that are still pursuing the dream and hearing and seeing them make moves that are inspiring. You see the life we live is so inspirational that to say one person does it for me would be a lie.
Tention Free : What are your plans & hopes for the future ?
Allen Clark :
It’s funny that you ask because when I began this per suit all I wanted to do was be a playwright but after getting younger individuals involved and other young men and women that never knew they could like the technical side of entertainment it has become my goal to help open the doors for those that might not had the opportunity such as my self and let them get the feel for the theater as a way of breaking into the entertainment field besides for the norm being film. Also I want to start up an education center or take run boy run into the realm of teaching individuals both young and old the ins and outs of theater entertainment and give the opportunity with the hope that it sparks them the same way it did me.
Tention Free : Tell us about your playwright work?
Allen Clark :
underground episodes took me 10 years to make and to be honest if it weren’t for my job not giving me a position as promised then I probably wouldn’t have done this. The play is great contains at least 15 different stories surrounding that one constant that we all ride in this city and that’s the train. From stories involving bullying to drug addiction these stories are made to do one thing make you think about the person sitting next to you the next time your riding after all there are always stories beneath the city I’m just glad I had the will to create a theatrical space to bring them to life.
Tention Free : Do you set goals for yourself and how do you do that?
Allen Clark :
I must admit when I was younger I had goal set out and up to the point of my job and school I was all about goals but my perspective has changed that it’s more about doing and then you do what’s necessary to get things done. For example I was told to put a down payment on the fringe in 2014 and when I did that it set everything in motion rehearsal, paying for theater getting actors doing casting and then having a great show. All that from a sort with a purpose but not a set goal and plan wait I guess I did have a set goal and plan lol.
Tention Free : What made you decide to become an performance arts poet?
Allen Clark :
I have been a performance artist all my life so the transition to performing arts poet was easy since I was an mc before that. Now let me just make it clear that to hear me say that doesn’t mean I write in a spoken wordology format (Yea I just made that up lol) but more of a metaphoric picture because I feel when performing or writing for all that matter it is the visionary images that you conform within your words that create the best of your work and often loved by a crowd.
Tention Free : What motivates you to do your best work as a business man?
Allen Clark :
No lie what motivates me is knowing that this goal is for me. Life is funny when you work for others companies in general, all goals are supposed to be a team goal but in truth they aren’t its all about the company the administrator and in many cases the acknowledgment of your part is rewarded on such a minimal level that the only thing you feel is contentment. I’m in a place where what I’m doing is for me and my happiness of seeing others enjoy my work and I can honestly say when that goal is meet seeing smiles hearing people ask when is the next show it makes me feel happy and motivated to do it again.
