Tention Free : Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your background, education your passion etc. ??
My name is Pierre Wilson, and I am a candidate for the North Carolina House of Representatives. More importantly though, I’m a father to a beautiful 4 year old girl who is my heart. I graduated from Salisbury University, which is a prestigious university located in the small town of Salisbury, Maryland. I majored in political science.
Tention Free : We been hearing a lot about you, so we notice your starting to gain a lot of attention how does it feel?
It’s certainly a bit of a gift and a curse. Everyone has different beliefs, and typically most of the country is going to fall closer to one side of the aisle or the other. Whenever someone who expresses their beliefs starts to gain more attention, it typically means that you are going to have those who love you that much more and then those who feel the opposite. I’m hoping that people continue to learn more about Pierre the person, and not just my beliefs. I care so much about the struggles people in my community and the people around this country face. I want as much as anyone to see every single person with a smile on their face, living a life that they can feel proud and happy about. My closest friends and family know that about me. The challenge is getting those who have different opinions to understand that we can disagree but know that I still come from a place of love as do many of them. I think people will see that with time, however.
Tention Free : What kind of training have you had, if any ?
I’ve had the luxury to be a part of political campaigns. I’ve also been around politics for years. In addition to that, I ran for office in middle school, high school, and college as well. I’m also someone who understands that government officials are there to represent the people, not themselves. So many people forget that. No matter how much experience I have, I will always look to my community as a guide, which is how politics should be. We have enough self-serving people in office now, which is why so many people are living check to check even in a booming economy while their leaders live comfortably.
Tention Free : What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far ?
I think today is the most exciting achievement thus far in my career. Being able to launch my first campaign for political office, is a dream come true. God has a plan for my life and I didn’t always follow it, but I tell you what, I’m glad I followed this one! LOL He’s so faithful and I am so excited about serving my community in a bigger way.
Tention Free : What’s your goal in life you want to achieve next?
Well the biggest most obvious goal is to win this election! I have so much faith that we can pull this out. People in this community are tired of the same people running for these offices. They want change. The economy is the best it’s been in a long time, but many middle class people are still living check to check. Many kids are still receiving inadequate education. Why is that? If the economy is so great, does this mean that this is the best some of these people’s lives will ever be? I say no. So I’m running because I don’t live in a political bubble. I know the everyday struggles of people in my community. We need leaders who reflect real life not those who are too far removed to understand it.
Tention Free : What motivates you to do your best work as a politician ?
All the people I meet. The failed policies that have harmed so many, especially in the black community. I watch leaders build more welfare offices, and yet refuse to put enough money towards helping those who desire to get a chance to go to community college. Our system is set up to keep many in my community dependent. I call it the “survive, not thrive” policies. Keeping people dependent is beneficial to politicians. Dependent people need you, they vote for you, they advocate for you. Look, I’ve had conversations with so many of these people. If they had the resources to get an education, the childcare they needed while they finished their education, they could start businesses, be executives, entrepreneurs, and so much more. Instead, many (not all), are just waiting for their next check from the government because they don’t even know how to get ahead or where to start. The system is rigged to give just enough to survive and not enough to get ahead. I believe in my community and believe so many people are greater than the life they are living right now. I’m done watching my brothers and sisters being fed lies. I’m here to create meaningful, impactful change.
Tention Free : Did you choose this field, as a career, or as a hobby?
This is certainly what I want for my career. I was born to be a public servant. I’ve always served my community whether it be through a homeless shelter, food drive, education seminar, or walking dogs (which I love to do by the way lol). I’d love to go straight to the source and root out the greed and corruption that has plagued our political system for so long. I’m not afraid to fight back. People in this community are ready to fight back. I know we’ve had enough.
Tention Free : Everybody needs time out. What do you do in your free time?
That’s such a great question. I was just talking to my brother about the importance of taking time for yourself, especially because political campaigns can be grueling. I love to bike ride. It’s one of my absolute favorite things to do. It’s peaceful, calming, and relaxing to feel the breeze hit me. I love to swim. I grew up in my grandparents pool and it was mandatory that everyone in my family learned how to swim. My grandmother didn’t play that (lol). I love to have date nights with my daughter. She’s starting to love the movies, which I’m so happy about because I love going to the movies (lol). I also love to go to church. I actually just started serving in guest services at church which I know I will enjoy because I love interacting with people. I have a lot of options!
