Tention Free: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Background, education, passion, etc.
Sure! I have over twenty five years of digital media experience.
I spent four years at the California Institute of the Arts, studying both graphic and theatre design. I finished up, with an Associates of Arts (more then enough education for me) at FIDM/The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in digital media (nothing to do with fashion).
I have done work for the likes of Disney, FOX, Virgin, etc.. My passions are the arts, food (I am a big foodie), technology and, especially, Disney.
Tention Free: Can you please tell us more about “The Spellbook Music Soundtrack” ?
Absolutely! This is a cutting edge breakthrough within the arena of how one experiences an interactive book. As you read The Spellbook, you will hear music in the background. I leave it up to my guests to just silence their device (or not), with regard to whatever it is that they choose to do.
The soundtrack is either sold or streamed separately from the book. Nobody else is doing stuff like this, so I thought that I might give it a shot.
Tention Free: Nice, What inspired you to write the book “The Spellbook“?
So, honestly… Pazzaria Productions didn’t have any music album. I wanted one. So, the music kind of came first, here. “The Spellbook” is the first part of a three part, interactive Apple Book series. I wanted to expand the story of a group of wizards, known as “The Wizard Coven”, who make an appearance in the final book, “The Legend of the Lost Rose”.
In thinking about them, how I wanted to portray what “The Spellbook” is all about, and then thinking about the music, it just all sort of came together.
Tention Free: Great, What do you want readers to gain from reading your book “The Legend of the Lost Rose” ?
I want my readers to gain a deeper understanding of themselves. One of the overriding themes in the book is that of how religion is viewed in our world.
Wicca is the main religion of the planet of Light. So often, magic just happens in things like Cinderella, Harry Potter, etc… It is never explained how it happens.
I attempt to do that with a religion that is not only very explanatory, with regard to it’s magick, but also, put something out there that can be controvertial at times.
This is on purpose, and to hopefully showcase Wicca in a light that isn’t so demonized.
Tention Free: Okay, what motivates you to do your best work as writer?
Wow. I have never been asked this before. I am motivated by great, and inspiring work around me. Some of the best books that I have ever read are things like The Neverending Story, Alice in Wonderland, definitely Shakespeare (he’s my favorite writer), etc…
Lately, a lot of inspiration has been coming from Disney theme parks and films. But, not only. Nature can be very inspirational as well.
I just take whatever I can from an array of different experiences, arenas and places, and just try to write what I can, in the best way that I can.
For “The Legend of the Lost Rose”, the inspiration from that actually came from a clip art book that featured a frog, with a crown and a rose in his mouth. Along with the wizards in there, I just felt that there was a story that needed to be told.
I’m gay and multi talented. So, I felt that the main character of Spark should be as well. I showcase a gay relationship.
I have both studied and practiced Wicca in the past, so, I thought that that was a wonderful element.
Every great fantasy story needs to have dragons, witches and wizards (as well as nods to great Gods of the past). I have that as well.
Etc….
Tention Free: How can a new writer get started? Any tips?
Oh gosh. I have no idea, lol! Just dive write in! Write whatever comes to your head, at first, lol! I am just playing, a little bit, here. If it’s fiction that you are after, then surround yourself with fiction. Read, read, read, read, read and then read some more.
Create outlines of stories.
Study the great authors of the past.
Put together whatever inspires you the most.
Then, once you have something cohesive, market it to death, as much as you can. Get it into the hands of readers, as fast as you can, and get feedback.
Go from there.
It’s a long process from concept to completion, and if it’s immediate money that you are after, writing a book is DEFINITELY NOT the way to do so.
BUT, if there is an amazing story that you wish to tell, that you feel will resonate with people, WRITE IT!
Tention Free: Which character do you like most in “Spark the Flying Frog“?
